Activity Days

There is so much to do in Taranaki. Whether it’s an active outdoor adventure, exploring the region through guided tours, discovering new local villages and artists, or enjoying a luxury pamper session. We have put together a selection of half and full-day activity packages suitable for conference delegates, partner programmes or team building days. Prices listed are indicative and include transport and catering which can be adapted. Choose from one of the below selections or get in touch to discuss a customised option.

  • Golf
    Price: $140pp
    Book: Min 4 Max 20 (maximum of 20 advised for optimal timings)
    Time: 4 1/2 hours

    Take in the stunning views of mountain and sea from Ngamotu Golf Club in New Plymouth with a round of 9 holes, followed by premium wine or beer tasting with gourmet platters at popular wine bar The Hour Glass.

    Enjoy a bacon sandwich and coffee on arrival before heading out onto the course.  Competitions can be added to create a bit of healthy team rivalry, and at the end of your round refresh yourself with a wine or beer at the 19th (or in this case 10th!).  A wee gift is also included - something to take away and remember your visit to Ngamotu Golf Club.  

    Packages can be put together for 18 holes or for larger groups with the option to book out the course and include a mid-round gourmet BBQ and drink station stop.

    Cart and club hire can also be added to the package.

  • Cooking Class
    Price: From $125

    Choose from a few delightful hours to a ½ day with Jane or Helen, two of Taranaki’s most passionate foodies. Learn how to make anything from superb macaron's, a luscious layered and tiered mudcake, an easy 3 course dinner or food from some of the most interesting cuisines around the world. All options include matching wines and the ability to enjoy or take home the recipes and the results of your labour.

    A further option is the champagne showdown – a fun-filled and informative half-day gourmet experience where Helen and our wine expert Ronald take you on an exploration of the wonderful world of champagne and sparkling wines.

  • Style

    Start the afternoon in true style at local fashion store Et Vous.  View a selection of the best New Zealand and European fashion, and enjoy a personal styling talk which includes the looks of the season and tips for revamping your wardrobe.  While at Et Vous, you’ll have a makeup touch-up by artists from Blackbird Boutique, time to browse through the stunning fashion items in store and be spoilt with a luxury Et Vous gift package.  

    Once you're feeling glam, you’ll be taken up the hill to the New York style bar at the luxurious Nice Hotel and Table Restaurant.  Relax, recuperate and enjoy in total opulence under the stunning chandeliers, with a cocktail in one hand and sumptuous canapé in the other - yes please!

  • Walks
    Price: From $75

    Be guided over a variety of walks in Taranaki. You can choose from the 12km stunning Whitecliffs walk with spectacular views of Mt Taranaki, a half day or full day walk/tramp on the iconic Mt Taranaki, or walk to the top of the Pouakai Ranges. If that seems a little too strenuous, then a walk along the renowned Coastal Walkway, or the Te Henui or Huatoki Walkways may be more your style.

    These can be combined with great food and a coffee stop along the way, and a soak in the Taranaki Mineral Pools at the end will top off your day.

  • Taste + Create
    Price $139pp

    Time: 5 hours

    Start your trip with the delicious aromas at one of New Zealand's premium coffee roasters for a tour of their roasting floor, coffee making demonstration and a smell- test of different coffee samples. Then head to a local honey producer based in New Plymouth who produce a range of quality honey including manuka honey and raw honey. You will see a demonstration of a working hive, be shown honey collection and processing and have the opportunity to sample various honeys.

    The last stop is at a local design and manufacturing jeweller where you will have a special tour of their workshop, explanation of the jewellery manufacturing process and the chance to make your own sterling silver Mt Taranaki pendant.

  • Relax

    Fully unwind with a pamper experience at Aspire Day Spa which includes 60 minutes of treatments of your choice.  When you’re not enjoying your spa treatments you’ll be treated to a traditional high tea and a makeup touch-up by artists from Blackbird Boutique.   

    Once you're feeling relaxed, you can relax some more at popular wine bar The Hour Glass, while you indulge in premium wine tasting and gourmet platters - ahhhh pure bliss!

  • Kayak

    Head out on local Taranaki waters for a kayak tour along the Watara River, then satisfy your appetite with a shared lunch at Social Kitchen.  

    This is a scenic trip with fun easy grade 2 rapids to navigate as you explore the  lower Waitara River that winds it's way through the region. Fun and ideal for beginners who want to experience a real NZ adventure. Please note that for winter months there are only 12 wetsuits available so we recommend booking for a maximum of 12, unless you wish to bring your own.

  • Art Class

    Join Margaret Scott in her studio in Oakura for your very own art class. Margaret’s work reflects living between the mountain and the sea.

    Surrounded by some of her art Margaret will teach you the techniques that will mean you leave with your very own painting of a Taranaki landscape whether it be the iconic Mount Taranaki or something from the west coast seashore. Classes can be for either a half or full day. A half day option can be combined with visits to other studios.

  • Farm Tours

    Discover the richness and diversity of farming in Taranaki.

    Be guided around a range of agricultural and horticultural holdings in Taranaki. Hear from the owners and managers themselves about a range of topics including organic dairy farming, herd homes,
    once-a-day milking, sheep and beef farming, alpacas, agroforestry, sustainable land management, bees and honey, hydroponics and growing flowers.

  • Art Tour

    Choose from curated and guided visits to the acclaimed Govett-Brewster Art Gallery and Len Lye Centre, the vibrant museum at Puke Ariki, Kina NZ Design + Art Space and a huge range of artists studios and galleries that abound in Taranaki.

    Arguably the art capital of New Zealand local artists are keen to open their studios and galleries so you can view their work and appreciate the range and artistry in the province. From the inspiring stone sculptures by Renate Verbrugge and Howard Tuffery, the glittering works of Reuben Paterson, compelling assemblages of Don Driver’s, the intricate paintings of Ferne Petrie and works by John McLean, to well known photographs by Peter Peryer, you will be amazed by what is on offer.

  • Garden Tours

    Visit one, or more, of the internationally significant gardens of Taranaki. Choose from Te Kainga Marire, Pukeiti, Hollard Garden, Tupare or Pukekura Park. 

    These are truly gardens for all seasons with a diverse range of landscapes and unique plant collections. Hear from the passionate curators and owners of these wonderful assets. A visit to a selection of private gardens may also be an option depending on your interests and the time of the year. Included in your package will be coffee and a meal befitting to the gardens that you visit.

  • Stand-up Paddle Board

    Get active with a stand-up paddle board session on Lake Rotomanu, then enjoy a shared lunch at one of New Plymouth’s newest establishments, Social Kitchen.  

    Option availble to split your group up with half on kayaks and half on stand-up paddle boards, and if you'd like to add a bit more activity to your morning, the friendly crew at Canoe and Kayak Taranaki are more than happy to introduce some games and challenges.  Please note that for winter months there are only 12 wetsuits available so we recommend booking for a maximum of 12, unless you wish to bring your own.

  • BEHIND THE SCENES
    Price: $135

    Time: 5 - 6 hours

    Get a different perspective of some of Taranaki's key attractions with a behind the scenes tour! Start at Pukekura Raceway, watch horses train while enjoying a coffee and light breakfast, then meet the trainer for a tour of the stables and talk about the horse racing industry.

    Jump on the bus to TSB Showplace for a tour backstage. Hear the fascinating history of this stunning theatre built in 1925, see the dressing rooms and learn some of the show business tips and tricks. Enjoy some morning tea before heading to world renowned rugby ground Yarrow Stadium.

    Sit in the dressing rooms where sporting legends have prepared for memorable sporting moments, learn about the venue operations and have the chance to run onto the number one pitch! Then enjoy lunch in the Legends Lounge overlooking the pitch...and Mountain if you're lucky! Add in a talk from one of our local sportsmen to hear a few stories and 'behind the scenes' info.
